Kevin Durant offered advice to injured rookie Victor Wembanyama, who will miss the rest of the season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder.
Injuries are an unfortunate part of every athlete’s career, and for young stars like Victor Wembanyama, it can be especially challenging.
After the San Antonio Spurs announced that Wembanyama would be sidelined for the rest of the season due to deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant shared some heartfelt advice for the rookie.
"It's tough to deal with initially, but as weeks and months go by, you just kind of deal with the normal," KD said.
He went on to emphasize the importance of patience, saying that while it’s natural to feel upset about missing games, getting frustrated won’t help.
"You can't get back on the court. Being upset about it won't do much for you," Durant added. "So get in tune with yourself a little bit more and maybe go find some new Legos to put together, read a couple of books, and then when it's time, go back on the court, start working out and stuff, lock in."
Durant’s words reflect his belief that athletes must find ways to occupy their time and focus on self-growth during periods of injury.
"Focus on each and every day, that will make it a little easier," Durant concluded.
While it’s tough for a young talent like Wembanyama to sit out, Durant's advice serves as a reminder that setbacks can also be opportunities for growth.
The 7-foot-4 center has already shown his potential, and when he does return to the court, he’ll likely be stronger both mentally and physically.
Wemby this season averages 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game, shooting 47.6% from the field.
