Gafford was helped off the court during Monday's 129-128 overtime loss to the Sacramento Kings after suffering a knee injury.
The injury occurred in the second quarter when Gafford was setting a screen for guard Spencer Dinwiddie at the top of the key. Kings guard Malik Monk collided with Gafford, causing him to fall and visibly hurt his knee.
This injury adds to the Mavericks' growing list of setbacks. They've already lost Anthony Davis indefinitely with an abductor injury and P.J. Washington, who is out with a right ankle sprain.
The Mavs are in a difficult situation. With limited room under their first-apron hard cap, they can't sign a player to a standard contract until late March.
This season, Gafford has been averaging 12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game.
