Los Angeles Lakers targeted Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren before making a deal for Mark Williams. Robert Williams, Myles Turner, Jericho Sims, and Jakob Poeltl were also among the Lakers trade targets.
The Los Angeles Lakers landed Mark Williams as a replacement for Anthony Davis, but at least one other name was in the mind of the General Manager, Rob Pelinka.
Brett Siegel from Clutch Points reports that the Lakers contacted the Detroit Pistons about Jalen Duren before eventually trading for Mark Williams.
“Before pulling off a big move for Williams, Pelinka made several calls around the league to inquire about athletic big men with rim-protecting abilities," Siegel noted.
"League sources say Robert Williams, Myles Turner, and Jericho Sims were big men on the Lakers' radar.
"Although their asking prices were too steep, Los Angeles also inquired about Jakob Poeltl with Toronto and Jalen Duren with Detroit, sources confirmed," he added.
This season, Duren averages 10.7 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game in 48 appearances for the Pistons.
