The New Orleans Pelicans have reportedly emerged as a team to acquire Jimmy Butler in a trade, via The Stein Line. The extent of New Orleans' interest was not immediately clear, but the Stein Line's sources say that a firm offer from the Pelicans would be built around the $36 million expiring contract of Brandon Ingram.
The Pelicans have reportedly been looking on Brandon Ingram trade scenarios for a while now. Both haven't agreed on a contract extension this offseason, this is the main reason of the team trying to find a deal to get assets for an expiring contract.
The Stein Line sources also report that the Pelicans, after Ingram's $36 million expiring contract had been discussed by rival teams in various trade proposals designed to help facilitate Butler's Miami exit, decided to approach the Heat themselves about swapping Ingram for Butler.
