LaMelo Ball suffered an injury in a loss against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Hornets' head coach, Charles Lee, provided an injury update: "I think he shot the ball and backed up to get back on defense and stepped on a foot. We’ll see what happens tomorrow as he comes in for treatment."
As the Charlotte Hornets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 112-107, LaMelo Ball left the game in the middle of the second quarter with a left ankle sprain and didn't return.
In a press conference after the game, Hornets coach Charles Lee shared his perspective on the incident.
"I came in here pretty quickly afterward, so I know they’re still obviously doing some evaluation," Lee said.
"I think he shot the ball, backed up to get back on defense, and stepped on a foot. We’ll see what happens tomorrow as he comes in for treatment and stuff, but he did a great job of being in the locker room and being engaged as the guys came off the court," the coach continued.
Ball stepped on Jared Vanderbilt's foot, quickly fouled, and went to the locker room. Hornets star only played for 9 minutes and scored 7 points.
An update on Ball's status for the remainder of the homestretch is expected as soon as Tuesday.
LaMelo Ball this season averages 28.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game.
