Virtus Bologna decided to prohibit the sale of tickets to Baskonia fans ahead of the game between the two sides in Bologna.
Virtus Segafredo Bologna decided not to make tickets available to Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz fans ahead of the EuroLeague Round 20 game between the two teams this Friday.
The Italian side turned down the request, claiming that it was a decision of the Italian police, with Baskonia showing its intense annoyance with an announcement on Tuesday afternoon.
"Saski Baskonia expresses its deep dissatisfaction after the rejection of the request for tickets for its fans to the game against Virtus on January 10 in Bologna," the release mentions.
"Baskonia officially requested the alloocation of tickets for its fans, thus allowing its supporters to be present and support the team in this important EuroLeague meeting. However, this request was denied on the grounds of a ban issued by the local authorities, which restricts the sale of tickets to fans of the visiting team."
The Basque club thinks the decision wasn't based on security concerns, but rather on the fans' country of origin.
"Baskonia will continue to defend the rights of its fans and reiterates its commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and equality that have always characterized it," the announcement concludes.
