Panathinaikos have invested €12.3 million in contract extensions for Mathias Lessort and Juancho Hernangomez.
Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens have recently solidified their roster for the coming years by extending the contracts of two key players -- Mathias Lessort and Juancho Hernangomez -- who were important pieces in their EuroLeague triumph last season.
According to SDNA, the Greek club has signed Lessort to a three-year deal worth €7.8 million, starting next summer. The contract will pay him €2.5 million annually for the first two years and €2.8 million in the final year.
Despite suffering a severe fibula fracture recently, Lessort's injury did not deter Panathinaikos from offering the extension.
"I'm very proud of our president, Dimitris Giannakopoulos, for giving Lessort a three-year extension after a serious injury. No one else in Europe would do such a thing. This shows that we are a family," coach Ergin Ataman said after EuroLeague Round 19 win against Virtus.
In addition to securing Lessort, Panathinaikos managed to retain Hernangomez, who had drawn interest from Real Madrid and FC Barcelona since last summer.
According to SDNA, the Spanish forward remained loyal to Panathinaikos, informing other teams that he would not engage in discussions until he had heard from his current club. This commitment ended in Hernangomez signing a two-year deal worth €4.5 million.
