Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv have signed Marial Shayok, a 1.98m South Sudanese-Canadian wing, to a two-year contract. The 29-year-old stood out in the recent Olympic Games in Paris, where he represented South Sudan.

"We are happy that a player like Marial is joining us," coach Oded Kattash said. "This is a shooter who will add versatility and depth to the guard and forward positions, and we expect him to get down to business soon and help us achieve our goals."

Shayok has some EuroLeague experience from his time with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, where he appeared in 15 games during the 2021-22 season, averaging 4.6 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists.

This past summer, Shayok teamed up with his current Maccabi teammate, Wenyen Gabriel, to represent South Sudan in the Olympics. During the tournament, Shayok posted averages of 14.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game.

He began the current season with the Liaoning Flying Leopards in China's CBA, where he posted 13.8 points (shooting 41% from three), 3.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists over ten games.

Shayok was selected 54th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2019 NBA Draft and signed a two-way contract, splitting his time between the Sixers and their G-League affiliate. He appeared in four NBA games during his stint.
