The Oklahoma City Thunder announced that Holmgren would miss at least 8 to 10 weeks with a right iliac hip fracture, as the team will only provide the return-to-play protocol at that time.
With 6:50 remaining in the first quarter, Holmgren contested Andrew Wiggins' layup. After contact mid-air, Holmgren landed on his right side and remained lying on the ground while grabbing his right hip.
After coming in second in last year's Rookie of the Year voting, Holmgren had improved his numbers throughout his first 9 games, averaging 18.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.9 blocks (#2 in NBA).
The Thunder suffered just their second loss on Sunday. Now, they have lost their two main big men, as Isaiah Hartenstein is yet to play due to being sidelined with a fractured left hand.
One of the brightest young teams will have to continue without two of their key pieces in the lineup for the foreseeable future.
