The Turkish national team's head coach, Ergin Ataman, revealed that the Anadolu Efes Istanbul star guard will return to the roster in EuroBasket 2025.
"We will explain to all of you guys in Europe that on the EuroBasket 2025 title Shane will be with us," Ataman said in the latest episode of the Off the RECourt with Shane Larkin podcast.
Larkin had a public back-and-forth with the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) last year after he declined to show up for the national team due to injury. Larkin was later fined and suspended by TBF.
"We talked with the team many times. We made a deal because I know he wants to help Turkish basketball too much. We made a great effort for everything also on the social side. Talking with the team, [I was] a bit scared at first because of what happened last year," Ataman said. "He was very kind. We understand each other. On the other side, if we need, Wilbekin will also be ready to play."
Ataman called Larkin one of the best players in Europe and even joked that he would love to bring him to Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens, the club he coaches now, from Anadolu Efes Istanbul, the team he previously coached and where Larkin currently plays.
"If there is something wrong, I'd like to keep him immediately, he smiled.
"For us, it will be a great deal."
