Chimezie Metu stressed his commitment to FC Barcelona this season, saying he'll focus on the NBA only if the opportunity arises after June.
FC Barcelona big man Chimezie Metu took charge with 21 points and three rebounds in a big road win over Anadolu Efes Istanbul on Tuesday, sparking some chatter that he might still belong in the NBA.
But despite his past six seasons and 260 games in the league, Metu's fully committed to Barca this season.
"If it happens, it happens. I'm here in Barcelona, and I wanna be there," Metu told Sportal.gr's Eftychia Oikonomidou.
"For the year I'm here, I'm all focused on Barcelona. Whatever happens after, if the NBA comes calling, I'll decide what makes sense for me. I know that until June, I will be playing for Barcelona. Outside of that, I don't know. ... I'm here, I'm having fun, I'm enjoying playing basketball, so I can't complain."
The 27-year-old is averaging 8.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 6.8 PIR over 19 minutes in the rookie EuroLeague season and is one of the reasons why Barca is currently sharing the league lead after five straight wins (5-1).
All signs point to them being true contenders for the EuroLeague Final Four, and Metu seems confident about it, even naming who he sees there -- excluding their main rivals, Real Madrid.
"Us, Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, and Panathinaikos," he predicted.
But there's still a long way to go, with 28 regular-season games left. Up next, Barcelona faces Olympiacos in Piraeus on Thursday night.
