The team coached by Ettore Messina has now reached an agreement in principle with Senegalese big man Ousmane Diop, multiple sources have told BasketNews.
As we reported at the beginning of the month, Diop was considered a priority target for Milan. After a lengthy negotiation, an agreement in principle has now been reached.
The Senegalese big man has spent the last three seasons with Dinamo Sassari, and this year, he averaged 11.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game.
For Milan, Diop's addition has double value: they added a young and intriguing big man to their roster and increased the number of Italian players on the roster.
That's because Diop is considered Italian by formation, thanks to his years spent in the youth system of APU Udine.
Diop will be the main backup to Josh Nebo, with whom Milan has already secured a two-year agreement. Nebo recently received the Slovenian passport, meaning Milan won't need to spend an extra visa to register him.
Regarding the future of Nicolo Melli, Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul is considered the frontrunner to sign the Italian veteran, sources told Basketnews. Melli has already played for Fenerbahce from 2017 to 2019, reaching two consecutive EuroLeague Final Fours.
