FC Barcelona have reportedly reached out to Xavi Pascual in an effort to bring him back to the club he left in 2016.
Xavi Pascual and FC Barcelona are discussing the possibility of the Catalan coach returning to the club, Jose Ignacio Huguet of El Mundo Deportivo reports.
Per the same report, the club has already reached out to the coach to convey its interest and replace Roger Grimau. Pascual has just finished his contract with Zenit Saint Petersburg, where he has spent the last four years, and no longer has any commitments.
At this time there is no offer on the table, only preliminary contacts to assess whether both parties are interested in working together again after the 2008-2016 period, define Pascual's capacity for action in the remodeling of the current squad and explore the venture's financial viability.
Pascual, 52, is currently one of the highest-paid coaches in European basketball, with a salary of around €2 million net (almost €4 million gross in Catalonia). Barca, on the contrary, is in a delicate financial situation. Hence, the deal can only take place if the 2010 EuroLeague winner accepts a somewhat reduced salary, which will still be higher than his predecessor's earnings this year (less than €500,000 gross).
