Since the Pistons have mathematically no chance of making it to the post-season, with 12 wins and 56 losses and just 14 games remaining until the end of the regular season, Thompson's absence should be evaluated accordingly.
The 21-year-old swingman was picked as the 5th overall draft pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and has been a noteworthy presence in a very weak season for the Pistons.
Thompson averaged 8.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in his first season in the NBA.
