With the end of the 2023-24 NBA season coming near the end, Toronto Raptors forward RJ Barrett was hit with devastating news.
Barrett's younger brother, Nathan Tyler, passed away at just 19 years of age on March 12, the Barrett family announced.
Nathan was an active athlete, but despite his athletic prowess, he had chosen to pursue a pilot career. The young boy passed away due to an undisclosed illness.
RJ Barrett has already missed the game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, he will be sidelined during the game against the Orlando Magic on Friday as well. The Raptors forward is now out indefinitely.
Nathan and RJ's father, Rowan Barrett, is the Canadian national team's general manager.
"During this difficult time, our family would like to ask for privacy but greatly appreciates the outpouring of love, support, and prayers that we have been receiving. Though his time with us was brief, he will live forever in our hearts," the Barrett family statement writes.
