Adams has been sidelined since January 22 due to a season-ending posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injury, which kept him out of the final 36 games of the previous campaign and will now extend into the entirety of the 2023-24 season.

Despite undergoing a stem-cell injection in March with the hope of returning after a re-evaluation in four weeks, the injury persisted through the playoffs and the offseason.

The Grizzlies disclosed in Sunday's statement that the rehabilitation efforts "did not resolve ongoing knee instability."

The 30-year-old center had an impactful presence on the court in 2022-23, averaging 8.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 blocks over 42 games.
