Franz Wagner is out for tonight's Germany vs. Australian Boomers game in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, according to Olgun Uluc of ESPN.

Orlando Magic forward suffered an ankle setback during the World Cup opening win against Japan on Friday.

Wagner's injury occurred with a little over five minutes left in the game, as Germany held a commanding 75-53 lead. After a minor collision in mid-air with a Japanese player, the 21-year-old wing landed awkwardly on his left ankle.

On Saturday, the German Basketball Federation announced that his status is day-to-day.

National team doctor Oliver Putz added Wagner avoided a severe injury.

"Nothing is broken, torn, or anything like this -- things that would end the FIBA World Cup for him," Putz said, per Florian Krebl from a German sports news agency called SID.

As Wagner approaches his 22nd birthday on Sunday, Germany is slated to face Australia in Okinawa. Both teams grabbed their respective wins on Match Day 1.
