Usman Garuba became a free agent after being released by the Thunder.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have officially announced that they have parted ways with Spanish big man Usman Garuba.
The player was traded to the Thunder during the summer by the Houston Rockets as a part of a five-team trade.
Garuba had a guaranteed contract for the next season, worth around $2.5 million, but the Thunder had to waive several players in order to get down to the league's maximum number of players available on the roster.
The Spanish big man was drafted by the Houston Rockets with the 21st pick overall in the 2021 NBA Draft. But during his two seasons in Houston, he found limited playing time, averaging only 13 minutes per game last season.
Garuba will now be able to operate as a free agent and find a new team that might be more suitable for his growth.
The former Real Madrid player is currently with the Spanish national team preparing for the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
