Mike James has not exercised an NBA exit clause, and he is set to play for AS Monaco in the 2023-24 season, according to BasketNews sources.

A couple of hours later, Monaco confirmed the information by releasing an official announcement.

One of the marquee EuroLeague stars could have left Monaco only for a guaranteed NBA deal until July 25th, per BasketNews sources.

Sasa Obradovic will have Mike James, Kemba Walker, Jordan Loyd, Elie Okobo, Matthew Strazel, and Yakuba Ouattara at his disposal in the backcourt.

Ouattara, the Roca Team captain, has not been officially announced by the club but is expected to sign an extension sooner than later.

That should be the last Monaco market move for the 2023-24 season.

Roca Team was in the race for Nikola Mirotic, but at this point, it doesn't look like the biggest EuroLeague free agent is likely to move to the Monegasque club.

AS Monaco are set to retain 11 players from last year's roster, which achieved historical accomplishments by reaching 3rd place in the EuroLeague and winning the French league championship.

Mike James, who turns 33 before the 2023-24 season, averaged 15.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 16.3 PIR in 38 EuroLeague games last season.

He had twelve games with over 20 points, second only to Sasha Vezenkov (16) and Will Clyburn (13).

He dropped a season-high 28 points in Munich and Madrid, including a miraculous 3+1 play that forced overtime vs. Real.

In the regular season, James ranked second in the EuroLeague for points generated from his scoring and assists (27.1).

Mike James will start his third season with the same EuroLeague team for the first time in his career. Before this, he spent two years with three EuroLeague clubs, including Baskonia, Panathinaikos, and CSKA.
