Spanish NT captain Rudy Fernandez said the Paris Olympic Games in 2024 will be his last tournament in his country's jersey.
Rudy Fernandez, captain of the Spanish NT, has announced that the 2024 Paris Olympics will be his last tournament with the squad.
During the presentation of the campus that bears his name in the Mallorca town of Port de Pollença, Fernandez revealed the promise he gave his late father.
"I promised my father that the Olympics would be my last tournament and I think it will be like that at a professional level; I hope to finish my career in the Spanish team there".
The 38-year-old forward is included in Spain's shortlist for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 in Manila, drawn up by coach Sergio Scariolo.
Fernandez recalled that he has "one more year" left at Real Madrid, as stipulated in a contract that is "almost done", he specified.
"We might reach the Olympic tournament and that's where I will end my career in the Spanish team. I have one year left at Real Madrid, it's signed, almost done (the contract) but the Olympics would be my last tournament," he insisted.
Regarding his inclusion in the preliminary list for the Basketball World Cup, the captain of the Spanish team admitted he's "very excited."
"I am very happy to be back in the Spanish team at the age of 38 and that the coach continues to call me to be able to help the youngest in the minutes that I stay on the court", he indicated.
