Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) president Jorge Garbajosa confirmed he received commitments from both veterans for the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup.

"I have spoken with Alberto Herreros, with Rudy [Fernandez], Chacho [Sergio Rodriguez], [Sergio] Llull. I am very happy for them," Juan Jimenez from AS quotes Garbajosa. "I see many similarities with our victory in the EuroBasket. Two weeks before, they seemed out [of the EuroLeague] after trailing 0-2 [against Partizan in the EuroLeague playoffs]."

"The most incredible thing is that when I spoke to them, Llull and Rudy were the first to tell me: see you this summer. The commitment they have is exceptional," Garbajosa added.

For Llull, it will be his 11th major international tournament for Spain. Meanwhile, Fernandez has already played in 15 major international tournaments for his country, including four FIBA World Cups.

Fernandez was among Spain's national team leaders in the EuroBasket 2022, averaging 7.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 8.0 EFF per game in 8 appearances.

Llull was also ready to compete in the EuroBasket last year but was ruled right before the competition started with a muscle injury.

In the 2022-23 EuroLeague season, a 35-year-old Llull averaged 6.1 points, 1.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 5.0 PIR per game in 29 appearances.

Meanwhile, 38-year-old Fernandez averaged 4.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 4.2 PIR in 20 games played.

During the FIBA Basketball World Cup, Spain will play in Group G and face Iran, Cote D'Ivoire, and Brazil in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The Basketball World Cup will take place in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia from August 25th to September 10th and will be hosted by the three nations for the first time.
