The coach had previously signed a contract extension just last November that tied him with the organization until 2025. Galatasaray were eliminated in the Top 16 in the Basketball Champions League and currently sit in 12th place in the domestic league.
Although the roster features several former EuroLeague players, Galatasaray NEF Istanbul haven't been able to achieve the goals that were set before the season. As a result, the management has decided to make immediate changes.
The club has officially announced that the franchise is parting ways with its head coach Andreas Pistiolis.
44-year-old Pistiolis joined Galatasaray last season after working as an assistant at Panathinaikos Athens, Banvit, and CSKA Moscow. The Greek coach took over the Turkish club in the middle of the previous season, replacing Ekrem Memnun.
He was given a contract extension just last November, which should have run until 2025.
The club was eliminated in the round of the Top 16 in the Basketball Champions League. On top of that, Galatasaray are currently just 12th in the Turkish Basketball League (BSL) with 12 wins and 15 losses.
There are two games remaining in the schedule for Galatasaray, giving them a chance to still get to the BSL playoffs.
