After losing the EuroLeague game against their main rivals while William Howard nailed a half-court buzzer-beater, this time, AS Monaco (8-2) came out on top, prevailing ASVEL LDCL Villeurbanne (7-4) 84-82 (19-20, 27-21, 22-20, 16-21).
The Roca Team got their third straight LNB Pro A victory.
James Gist scored a duo with 2:09 to go in the fourth quarter and put his team in front by one point (80-79). Though, Donatas Motiejunas scored a hook shot on the other end while Alpha Diallo added one successful free throw (82-80) with 1:18 to play.
Elie Okobo tied the game at 82, however, Paris Lee came up big and made a layup (84-82) as the game clock was showing 49 seconds. Chris Jones missed the 3-point shot, Motiejunas answered with the bucket off the mark and ASVEL had one more opportunity to tie the game or even take out the lead.
But Elie Okobo could not convert the shot from deep and Monaco celebrated a hard-fought victory.
Donatas Motiejunas was outstanding for Monaco, posting 28 points (8/12 2PT, 2/3 3PT, 6/10 FT), 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and 31 PIR.
Chris Jones was a top scorer for ASVEL, scoring 14 points (4/7 2PT, 1/2 3PT, 3/3 FT), grabbing 1 board, dishing 3 assists, and collecting 14 PIR.
His co-partner in the backcourt line, Elie Okobo, accumulated 13 points (3/3 2PT, 0/5 3PT, 7/8 FT), 3 rebounds, 8 assists, and 15 PIR.
Mike James and Leo Westermann did not play for Monaco due to injuries.
