Zenit St Petersburg continued adding veteran depth to its roster, by signing Lithuanian forward Mindaugas Kuzminskas to a one-year deal, the club announced on Monday. 31-year-old (2.05) arrives from Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar where he averaged 12.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the 7DAYS EuroCup, and also posted 14.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in the VTB League action.
A well-traveled Kuzminskas now returns to the EuroLeague where he has 164 appearances over nine seasons. He has a career average of 8.0 points and 2.9 rebounds posted with Zalgiris Kaunas, Unicaja Malaga, AX Armani Exchange Milan, and Olympiacos Piraeus.
Kuzminskas, who just recently participated in the FIBA Olympic Qualification Tournament with Lithuanian national team, also spent the entire 2016-17 with the New York Knicks. He averaged 6.3 points and 2.0 rebounds in 68 games in the NBA.
"It's very nice to play in the EuroLeague again. BC Zenit has an excellent coach, professional club and very good teammates. It's usually very difficult for me to make decisions, but this time it was pretty easy. I am glad to join the team and I hope that BC Zenit will be able to achieve the highest goals in the new season," said Kuzminskas in a message on the club's website.
"We are very pleased that Kuzminskas will become a part of our family," said Zenit head coach Xavi Pascual. "He is an experienced player who can play at two positions - small and power forwards, shoots well from a distance, and plays great in low-point."
