All-EuroLeague snubs team: who were left out?

2022-05-18

With the EuroLeague season coming to an end, the two All-EuroLeague teams were announced last week, creating some buzz as usual.

While for the players involved in the selection, it's always a good recognition for what they did during the season, most of the talks are often dedicated to the ones left out of the two teams.

With Mike James, Shane Larkin, Sasha Vezenkov, Nikola Mirotic, and Walter Tavares forming the All-EuroLeague first team, the All-EuroLeague second team was composed of Vasilije Micic, Kostas Sloukas, Shavon Shields, Vladimir Lucic, and Georgios Papagiannis.

So now it's time to switch the conversation to the names of other players who might have been involved in the selection but, for various reasons, were left out.

Who are the biggest All-EuroLeague teams snubs? Let’s try to find out some candidates.

Scottie Wilbekin (PG, Maccabi Tel Aviv)

After a disappointing first part of the season that led to the decision to part ways with coach Ioannis Sfairopoulos, Maccabi Tel Aviv bounced back with coach Avi Even on the bench, winning 8 of the last 10 games played in the regular season and gaining a spot in the EuroLeague playoffs.

Scottie Wilbekin was hands down one of the main factors for that great final part of the season. Once again, the American point guard took most of the team's offensive load on his shoulders and delivered in the most important moments.

Building blocks: Monaco expected to reach agreements with Donta Hall and Jordan Loyd

2022-05-13

The planning for the next Euroleague season is officially on, and after reaching the playoffs in their first season, Monaco are ready to strengthen their roster even more.

One of the most positive surprises of the EuroLeague season, American big man Donta Hall, will remain in Monaco next season. Hall has an agreement in place to sign a three-year contract extension with the Principality club, multiple sources told BasketNews.

The news about an agreement between Hall and Monaco was originally reported by the Greek website Totalbasket.

Hall's extension with Monaco will include NBA outs, another source told BasketNews. The big man had received interest from other EuroLeague clubs, too, and he was being monitored by at least a couple of NBA teams, sources told BasketNews.

However, his preference was to remain in Montecarlo for at least another season.

Hall averaged 8.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 12.7 PIR per game in his first full EuroLeague season.

Keeping the core of the team together is one of Monaco's priorities for next season, but additions are also expected.

American guard Jordan Loyd, who played with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg this season, has an agreement in place with the Principality side for the next two seasons, sources told BasketNews.

The news about an agreement between Loyd and Monaco was originally reported by the French website BeBasket.

In EuroLeague, Loyd averaged 13.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 14.5 PIR per game.

Last summer, the 28-year-old guard originally signed a two-year deal with Zenit, but he's expected to officially part ways with the Russian side at the end of the VTB League season.

Monaco are also working on re-signing American guard Paris Lee, sources told BasketNews. The former Orleans player has received interest from other EuroLeague teams, including Panathinaikos, sources told BasketNews, but his priority is to remain with Monaco.

Lee averaged 7.2 points, 2.4 assists, 1.4 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game in his rookie campaign in EuroLeague.

As previously reported by our website, Monaco also remain one of the best-positioned teams to sign John Brown III, who's currently playing in Italy with Germani Brescia.

The former UNICS Kazan big man might form with Donta Hall one of the most athletic and versatile frontcourts in the competition.
