After the loss to Girona, Barca's captain Alex Abrines revealed his disappointment with the result and overall team's attitude.
FC Barcelona's struggles continue. The Spanish powerhouse lost 90-91 to the last ACB team, Girona Basquet, and dropped out of the Top 8.
Following the loss, the team's captain, Alex Abrines, didn't mince his words.
"I'm the first to criticize the team. We're not stepping up, and we don't understand what this badge represents," Abrines said via Gigantes. "It's embarrassment after embarrassment. With the players we have, we shouldn't be where we are."
"When things go wrong, doubts arise. The momentum hasn't changed. We've had great games, but we're not a competitive team," Abrines continued.
The 31-year-old also talked about the loss to Girona.
"There are no words. We don't know how to play. We started poorly again and conceded 51 points by halftime," Abrines observed. "Talent alone won't take us anywhere. It's not enough. We need to play more as a team."
Nevertheless, despite a difficult stretch, Abrines doesn't want to point fingers.
"It hasn't worked out, and I think in the end, it's no one's fault," he admitted. "We're a team. We're in this together, and it's something that needs to change."
"Words are just words. We've talked about this so many times, and obviously, the situation isn't just bad now – it's been bad for a long time. We haven't been able to respond or find the solution," Abrines concluded.
