Following an overtime loss to Joventut Badalona, coach Joan Penarroya acknowledged that "the team is frustrated."
After their recent victory over Paris Basketball in the EuroLeague, it seemed FC Barcelona was regaining their winning form. But the ACB League offers no respite for even the best teams, as Joan Penarroya's team suffered another domestic defeat, losing to Joventut Badalona in an overtime match, 90-91.
Coach Penarroya entered the press room at the Palau Blaugrana looking disappointed.
"Another close game. For many stretches, we could have performed better. In the end, we were up by four, but we didn't know how to close it out. The team is frustrated. They understood the importance of this game," Penarroya stated in the post-game conference, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
"We have been left without a safety net for the three games of the first round. The locker room is affected," he added.
Penarroya acknowledged his team's effort, despite the lack of rewards for their hard work.
"The team is competing, even when they are not playing well, but they are losing. We have not won any of the close games in the last three weeks," he said. "The game was not good at all at the start of the match. The team is gradually finding their rhythm; they played well in Paris. I believe that in the last few games, our opponents have not outperformed us, but it's clear that we lack the confidence to win."
Barca has suffered its seventh loss in the ACB League, bringing their record to 7-7 and causing them to drop out of the Top 8. Meanwhile, Joventut is currently sitting at 10-5.
