Former Crvena Zvezda president Nebojsa Covic confirmed that John Brown III is close to signing with the club, and all that remains is for him to pass the medical tests.
The former Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade president Nebojsa Covic confirmed that John Brown III is close to joining the club.
On Sunday, BasketNews reported that Brown is close to signing with Crvena Zvezda.
"From what I know, this rumor is becoming very likely," Covic told RTS. "Likely in the sense that this player will soon come to Belgrade for medical exams. He had a serious shoulder injury."
"He's left-handed, and the injury was to his right shoulder. The injury was surgically treated, and he needs to pass the medical examination," Covic added.
Covic also believes that the 32-year-old forward would be a significant reinforcement for Ioannis Sfairopoulos' team.
"We're talking about a good and experienced player. If he passes the medical exams and can start playing immediately, that's great. What we don't want is to end up treating him ourselves, like we did with Thompkins last year. However, that eventually paid off, and he did his job well. This will be up to the club's medical staff to assess," Covic said.
The 32-year-old has been recovering from a shoulder injury suffered late in the 2023-24 season with AS Monaco and expects to be ready for action by mid-to-late December, sources told BasketNews.
Brown has been a critical defensive anchor when healthy, propelling Monaco to the EuroLeague Final Four and playoffs over the last two seasons.
In the 2023-24 campaign, Brown led the EuroLeague in charges drawn and ranked in the top three for forced turnovers. He excelled in steals and charges as the only big man among the league's top 10 players in those categories.
He also finished in the top three of the EuroLeague's Best Defensive Player poll in the BasketNews players' survey, narrowly missing the award to Thomas Walkup.
Brown averaged 6.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.1 steals, and an 8.4 PIR in 25 minutes with Monaco last EuroLeague season.
Over three EuroLeague seasons, he has posted averages of 6.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 1.5 steals, and an 8.7 PIR in 25 minutes per game.
