Chus Mateo openly stated that he needs more players than he currently has in Real Madrid. However, he did not want to rush the signings.
Despite being the overwhelming favorites, Real Madrid lost in the Spanish Supercup final on Sunday against Unicaja Malaga. After the game, Real Madrid's head coach, Chus Mateo, talked about the wider picture.
With Guerschon Yabusele leaving the team to go to the NBA, Real Madrid did not sign any new players beyond the contracts they had already agreed before the departure. Mateo directly addressed it.
"There is such a brutal demand and physical level that I need more players for a 90-game season," he said after the match. "We have to be attentive to see how the team is doing and know what we need."
"Our concern is to know where we need to improve and where we need to add someone. There is no rush," the coach later specified.
While the head coach was talking about possible additions to the roster, which currently has 13 athletes if 18-year-old Hugo Gonzalez is included, Facundo Campazzo was simple and honest after the 10-point loss.
"Unicaja was better than us," he stated.
