Olympiacos and Tyler Dorsey are close to reaching a deal, per multiple reports.
Tyler Dorsey might become Olympiacos Piraeus' first addition this summer, multiple outlets report.
The two sides have been in talks for quite some time and an agreement is expected to be reached soon. The Greek-American guard has one more year left on his contract with Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul, but his return to Piraeus seems imminent.
Telesport.rs reported about the agreement on Wednesday already. Meanwhile, per gazzetta's Konstantinos Melayess, Olympiacos and Dorsey have agreed to a contract for 2+1 years and it remains only for the Turkish team to release the 28-year-old guard's contract.
Sarunas Jasikevicius has made it clear that he doesn't need Dorsey and the player's agent has long been on the market.
Olympiacos, Partizan and Olimpia Milan have shown interest in him; however, the Greek side is closer to getting his signature. According to Melayess, Dorsey's contract with Fenerbahce for the 2024-25 season is worth $1,800,000. However, Olympiacos reportedly offered him $1,300,000 for the first year of his contract.
The California-born guard averaged 8.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for a PIR of 7.5 over 38 EuroLeague games. He produced 7 points overall in Fenerbahce's two Final Four fixtures against eventual champs Panathinaikos AKTOR Athens.
What's more, he only scored one basket in Games 4 and 5 of the playoff series against Monaco. All things considered, he never found a clear-defined role and consistent minutes within Saras' system.
"Just for me personally, I think it was a mental test this year," he admitted in an interview with BasketNews during the recent Final Four in Berlin.
"It was a learning curve. I didn't have big of a role this year."
Dorsey decided to come to Europe in the summer of 2019 and signed a contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv, averaging 10.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals in his rookie EuroLeague season and 11.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists in his second campaign.
He then went on to become one of the leading players on Olympiacos' highly successful 2022-23 roster, while reaching career-high averages of 12.8 points and 2.0 assists per contest. Dorsey won the Greek League and Cup with the Reds, in addition to being named the MVP in the latter competition.
"I always say my best year was with Olympiacos," he told BasketNews.
"[Giorgos] Bartzokas gave me a chance to play in a big position and a big role. We made it to the Final Four, and we showed heart. We lost at the game buzzer," he said, recalling Vasilije Micic's dagger that decided the 2022 semifinal.
"I'd rather lose like that than how we lost to Panathinaikos this year. So, I'd say that was my best season overall."
