"I have to say this: this is the second game for me and for my team [regular season Round 9 game against Pinar Karsiyaka] that the away team shot 45 free throws," Alimpijevic began.

The Serbian coach berated referees for not allowing legal defensive plays throughout the game.

"I don't know tomorrow what to tell to my players. What is the defensive cylinder? How to play with contact? How to play tough? I don't know how to teach my players. I don't know how to educate my players.

I already had one more game with 45 free throws. It's not [even] the middle of the season, and I have two teams with 90 free throws in my games," he said. "I don't know what to say to my players. Really. I don't know what to say," he concluded.

The derby was also mired in a minor controversy, where a manager of Besiktas was escorted out of the arena after a verbal fight with Goksenin Koksal, Galatasaray's team captain.

As a result of the game, Galatasaray improved its record to 5-8, while Besiktas regressed to 9-4.
