Greek legend Vassilis Spanoulis slammed "shameful" incident involving vulgar exchange in BCL game: "In more than 20 years in basketball, I have never seen in my life a guy from the table, who is a part of the game, to say: 'F**k you.'"
Peristeri bwin head coach Vassilis Spanoulis was ejected from the BCL game against Falco Vulcano Szombathely after receiving two technical fouls.
The incident occurred with 6:02 left in the fourth quarter during a dispute with a table official, as Spanoulis revealed in the post-game conference.
The Greek basketball legend claimed to have been subjected to inappropriate language from the official, expressing his disbelief at the situation.
"In more than 20 years in basketball, I have never seen in my life a guy from the table [table official], who is a part of the game, to say: 'F**k you.' I have never seen it in my life," Spanoulis stressed after the game. "This is a shame, first of all, for himself, after, for basketball, and for Falco organization, which is a very good organization with very good people and a very good coach that I know personally. This is a shame. I have never heard that.
"I asked him for a timeout only if they scored. He gave a timeout without Falco to score because we made a foul. I tell him, 'Why do you give timeout?' And he says to me, 'F**k you.' This is a shame for basketball," the coach continued. "This is what we don't need in basketball. This is a shame. I don't have anything else to say. A person from the table to tell me, 'F**k you.' This is a shame. I have never seen this in my life, and I will never see this again."
Despite the controversy, Peristeri managed to secure a 90-87 victory on the road.
