The foreign player transaction limit has been removed, but the foreigners who leave Israeli clubs due to the war will be able to return to play in the league only for the same club they previously left. All games will be played in clubs' home venues unless the security situation dictates otherwise.
No professional basketball has been played since the war started in Israel on October 7th. The Israeli Winner League is set to return with restrictions in place.
The league held an executive meeting on Sunday, where it was determined that the tournament would return on November 25th.
All teams will play in their home venues unless the security situation due to the ongoing war doesn't allow it. Additionally, the league removed the foreign player transaction limit. As a result, teams whose foreigners decide to leave the organizations due to the war will be able to sign new players to the squads.
However, there is a new restriction in place. Any foreign player who leaves the team due to the war is able to return to play in the league only for the team he left.
Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv (EuroLeague), Hapoel Shlomo Tel Aviv (EuroCup), Hapoel Bank Yahav Jerusalem, and Hapoel Holon (both - Basketball Champions League) are the only active basketball teams in the country at the moment. Other Israeli teams have lost multiple foreign players due to the ongoing war. While some have already signed replacements, others are struggling to do so.
It is currently unclear whether the games will be played behind closed doors or with an fan audience.
