Elisa Aguilar is expected to present the endorsements she needs (at least 15% of the 120 members of the assembly) to officially become an official candidate for the presidency of the Spanish Basketball Federation.

It's a position the 46-year-old ex-player will take up, barring any surprise, on October 2, according to AS. Aguilar has been working with the Spanish federation as director of competitions and is expected to be the only candidate to succeed the former president,Jorge Garbajosa, new chairman of FIBA Europe.

She will thus become the first female president of the Spanish Basketball Federation, joining Asuncion Lorente (Spanish Rowing Federation) and Isabel García (Spanish Rescue and First Aid Federation), as the women presiding over Spanish sport institutions.

Although Aguilar must be endorsed on October 2, the assembly has already given it its support. The four FEB vice presidents supported her candidacy in August. The FEB assembly will be renewed in 2024 and new elections for the presidency will be held .

Aguilar, who accompanied the Spanish NT during the recent FIBA World Cup in her capacity as director of competitions has a rich academic background -- a Master's degree in Sports Management and another in Sports Coaching.

In his farewell assembly, former president Jorge Garbajosa announced that the Spanish basketball regulatory body will present an income of 27 million euros and a surplus for the fourth straight year.
