Tyrique Jones capped his Turkish league season MVP award with a top-notch performance against Galatasaray in the first game of the playoffs.
Playoff excitement in the Turkish Basketball Super League officially started with the Turk Telekom Ankara – Galatasaray NEF Istanbul match played on Friday night.
On the other hand, the league's Season MVP award was also handed out before the outing.
Turk Telekom's big man Tyrique Jones was selected as the most valuable player of the 2022-23 season. Jones received the award before Game 1 vs. Galatasaray, where the EuroCup finalists won 94-85 to take the lead in the series. The second match will be played on Sunday, May 30, this time hosted by Galatasaray.
Jerian Grant led all scorers with 28 points, while Tyrique Jones racked up 11 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists for Erdem Can's squad.
Jones, who left Pesaro in Italy and transferred to Turkey last summer, became one of the most remarkable names of the season in all of Europe.
The 26-year-old forward, who played in 27 Basketball Super League games this season, averaged 14.0 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 21.4 in PIR per game.
Jones averaged 12.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 18.9 in PIR over 20 EuroCup contests. He had a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards in the competition's final game against Gran Canaria, but couldn't prevent his team's loss. Nevertheless, his impressive campaign made him an All-EuroCup Second Team selection.
