It was expected by many that Serbia would medal in the competition but they were eliminated in the round of 16 in an upset by Italy. The Serbian national team guard Nemanja Nedovic suffered a calf injury prior to the Serbs' elimination in a game against Israel.
Nedovic, who is back in his home country Serbia for the next season, as he signed with Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade during the summer, talked to the media in the club's season tickets sale start.
The Serbian guard touched on the emotional fatigue this past EuroBasket has brought on the players.
"Mental and emotional fatigue is the most after all. This EuroBasket had such an impact on all of us, that it drained us mentally," said Nedovic.
Nedovic drew a parallel with the defeat against Lithuania in the semi-finals of the EuroBasket in 2015 and compared it to what Serbia experienced in Berlin.
"I was part of that team that lost the match for the final [2015 EuroBasket semi-final], believe me - it wasn't like this. I can see from the other players, this really hit us all, they all finished the championship empty-handed and went to their clubs," Nedovic explained.
Nedovic tried to speed up his recovery from calf muscle rupture by going to Madrid for therapy and has commented on the decision.
"Honestly, I would have gone crazy if I didn't try something. If I had to just sit there in the hotel and go to Berlin for nothing," said the Crvena Zvezda guard.
"Like, I immediately remembered that therapy. It was encouraging that I was even told that I could play the semi-final," said Nedovic.
"However, in the end, there was no need for it. Certainly, that treatment will come in handy before the start of the season," Nedovic added.
