Poland delivered a rather surprising result in the EuroBasket 2022 premiere by beating the hosts, the Czech Republic, 99-84 (29-18, 17-28, 23-17, 30-21) in Prague.

Mateusz Ponitka was terrific for the winners, posting 26 points (7/10 2PT, 2/6 3PT, 6/9 FT), 4 rebounds, 9 assists, and 26 EFF.

A.J. Slaughter had 23 points (4/5 2PT, 5/11 3PT), 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 22 EFF.

Before the match, it was not clear whether Tomas Satoransky would appear on the court. The new FC Barcelona signing was recovering from an injury.

Nevertheless, he stepped onto the floor but didn't move mountains. Satoransky did not score a single point in 17 minutes (0/2 3PT), dished out 6 assists, made 1 mistake, and collected 3 EFF.

Poland: Mateusz Ponitka 26 (9 AST), A.J. Slaughter 23, Aleksander Balcerowski 14 (7 REB), Michal Sokolowski 12 (7 REB), Michal Michalak 10.

Czech Republic: Jan Vesely 17 (6/8 2PT), Jaromir Bohacik 13, Patrik Auda 10.
