A former FC Barcelona forward Rolands Smits has reached an agreement with Zalgiris Kaunas, according to Eurohoops' Aris Barkas. BasketNews sources have confirmed such information.
According to BasketNews sources, 27-year-old Smits will sign a lucrative two-year deal.
A 2.07 m Latvian big man will earn more than he did in Barcelona, sources told BasketNews.
He will be the starting power forward for Zalgiris.
Last season, Smits averaged 4.2 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 4.6 PIR in 37 EuroLeague games.
In the Spanish league, he posted 5.2 points (2FG: 56.9%; 3FG: 35.3%), 2.9 rebounds, and 4.9 PIR.
Smits joined Barcelona in 2018, becoming ACB champion once (2021) and the Spanish Cup winner three times (2019, 2021, and 2022).
So far, Zalgiris officially announced the addition of Laurynas Birutis.
Earlier, the Lithuanian powerhouse also confirmed the contract extensions of Edgaras Ulanovas and Lukas Lekavicius.
However, according to BasketNews sources, Zalgiris will also sign Arnas Butkevicius and Kevarrius Hayes.
