Neven Spahija and Bitci Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz went separate ways, per the official club report.
The Croatian head coach closed his second stint at Baskonia, where he arrived last November.
This Baskonia decision was not a surprise. Back in May, BasketNews reported that Joan Penarroya is expected to take over the squad after the 2021-22 season.
Spahija coached the Spanish powerhouse in 53 official matches and got 27 victories.
Baskonia finished ninth in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague and just completed their appearance in the ACB League.
The Basques lost a best-of-five semifinal series against Real Madrid, 0-3.
Prior to the stop in Vitoria, Spahija worked in China with Shanghai Sharks. Back in the 2019-20 season, he was the assistant for the Memphis Grizzlies.
During his coaching career, the 59-year-old specialist navigated such well-known European basketball names as Lietuvos Rytas, Maccabi, Valencia, Cibona, and Fenerbahce.
