Nikola Kalinic signed with Red Star Belgrade on a two-year deal. The 29-year-old Serbian power forward returns to the club with which he made his first significant steps in European basketball after six years.
Kalinic played for his home team in 2014-15, while making his EuroLeague debut. His performances drew the attention of Fenerbahce, which eventually kept him for five years, until 2020. The Subotica-born athlete played another year with Valencia Basket in Spain.
FC Barcelona were after the Serbian forward but the offer of Red Star was much higher in terms of salary. In addition, Barcelona also had to negotiate an agreement with Valencia Basket, for which Kalinic played during the 2020-21 season.
As Encestando reports, Kalinic refused to renew with Valencia Basket and Barcelona became interested in him after releasing Victor Claver. Red Star is scanning the market in order to be able to compete in the EuroLeague and continue dominating in the ABA League against the strength of the new Partizan squad of Zeljko Obradovic.
