The lack of domestic players and the inequality surrounding the status of the teams that compete in European competitions are about to bring new discussions among Greek League clubs. There is significant traction for a change, which would allow the use of a seventh non-domestic player (6+1).

The plan, which has already been discussed and can have an immediate effect, would allow teams greater freedom of movement since they would be able to make alterations to their rosters at will. As of now, many Basket League clubs seem eager to support this change in Greek basketball's top-tier competition. The clubs are going to have several meetings over the next weeks in order to discuss the amendment to the rule, which would allow them to register 7 non-Greek players. However, if such a proposal to be passed, the clubs would be able to use only 6 of them in each of their games, without the obligation to re-register an athlete prior to including him on the 12-man-squad.

The next board meeting will deal with the issue and it remains to be seen whether the Players' Association, which has been firmly campaigning for a cutdown on the number of non-Greek athletes allowed, will also have a say on the matter.
