Jordan Clarkson is undoubtedly the biggest star of the Gilas Pilipinas roster in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. However, the journey in the Filipino-hosted tournament hasn't been smooth, with the squad taking two losses in the first two games. After first losing to the Dominican Republic in a close 40-minute fight, the Philippines were defeated by Angola on Sunday.

Gilas Pilipinas staged a late comeback against Angola, but it wasn't enough to get the first win in the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The hosts lost after a 40-minute fight by 70-80 (19-12, 14-24, 19-20, 18-24). Gilas Pilipinas trailed by as much as 15 points in the fourth quarter with under four minutes to go but managed to return to a 7-point deficit with two minutes remaining.
