Doncic on his rivalry with Suns: 'I like when people trash talk to me'

Luka Doncic broke Dirk Nowitzki's franchise record and became the third-fastest player to reach 700 points in the NBA playoffs last night against the Phoenix Suns.

The Slovenian superstar exited the game in the second quarter after he felt discomfort in his left knee. "I felt a little pop before the game, then when I warmed up it was kind of ok, then it got a little worse but it's nothing serious," Luka explained after the game.

Devin Booker made headlines after Game 5 with his 'Luka Special' comment after a foul. Doncic wasn't phased by it.

"I like when people trash talk to me. It gets me going, it's fun, it's basketball," he explained. "There's going to be a lot of trash talk, and I like it, it's fun for me. It's comparative basketball, it's fun for me."

The Game 6 also featured an episode where Doncic got elbowed to the face while attempting to guard Deandre Ayton's dunk.

"It's good that I have a big head so it doesn't hurt that much," Luka joked in the post-game press conference. "You see, that's why I said Bogi is the best trash talker. He said 'I hope Ayton's elbows are good because your head is so big'."

Luka Doncic recorded 33 points, 11 rebounds, eight assists, and four steals to help the Dallas Mavericks notch an easy 113-86 (28-25, 32-20, 34-27, 19-14) victory over the Phoenix Suns on Thursday night to even their Western Conference semifinal series at three wins apiece.

Doncic had his 5th playoff game with 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists, breaking a tie with Dirk Nowitzki for the most in Mavs postseason history. Nowitzki's 4 games came across 145 games in his playoff career while Luka needed just 22 to pass him.

Reggie Bullock made five 3-pointers while contributing 19 points and seven rebounds for Dallas. Jalen Brunson added 18 points for the fourth-seeded Mavericks, who outscored Phoenix by 24 points over the final three quarters of the easy Game 6 win.

Deandre Ayton registered 21 points and 11 rebounds and Devin Booker added 19 points on just 6-of-17 shooting for the top-seeded Suns. Chris Paul had 13 points but committed five turnovers while handing out just four assists.

The decisive Game 7 will be played Sunday in Phoenix. The home team has won all six games in the series.

Doncic scored 11 first-quarter points to get the Mavericks started. He topped 30 points for the third time in the series and has tallied more than 25 in all six games.
