Virtus Bologna made it to the EuroLeague after winning the EuroCup two days ago. Now, the team is looking to bolster its frontcourt with signature European names.

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reports that Virtus are showing serious interest in signing Nikola Milutinov. BasketNews sources have confirmed this information.

The outlet also reports the club has been closely following the situation of Jordan Mickey.

Milutinov has arguably been the most dominant center in the EuroLeague for the past several years. After suffering a foot injury, he averaged 7.7 points and 6.5 rebounds for 13.6 PIR for CSKA Moscow during the 2021-22 season.

His two previous years were much better where he averaged 9.9 points and 8.6 rebounds for 17.9 PIR in the 2020-2021 season and 10.3 points and 8.2 rebounds for 19.2 PIR in the 2019-2020 EuroLeague season.

The Italian newspaper also reports about Virtus showing interest in Jan Vesely and John Brown III.

Jordan Loyd's name is also mentioned, but he reportedly has a deal with AS Monaco, according to BeBasket.

It would've made the headlines all day long, and it would have been the biggest underdog story of EuroCup ever.

But yet, it was an objective that could not even be imagined at the beginning of the season. Frutti Extra Bursaspor's cinderella story finished at the hands of the mighty Virtus Bologna, led by the final MVP Milos Teodosic and co.

The power of the opponent was self-evident, and playing against so much talent and experience, it was almost mission impossible from the very beginning. But yet, Bursaspor fought bravely by repeatedly making runs to cut the double-digit leads.

"I would like to make one point very clear," said Dusan Alimpijevic, the coach of Frutti Extra Bursaspor.

"I am not disappointed at all," said Alimpijevic. "I am very proud, and I am very happy. There is no need for sadness. I am glad to work with players like this. We played well. We fought well, not only today but through the entire season. Not only with players but also the president, the sponsors like every single person in the organization."

The coach is right by all means. But still, one cannot help thinking about "What ifs" in so many instances during the game, when a legendary road for the European title seemed not that far away.

What Ifs

What if John "The Pitbull" Holland and Andrew Andrews-the nightmare of Virtus Bologna with 37 points in their matchup in the regular season- made some more shots to get better than 3/14 FG combined?

"Once again, it is a good indication of the importance of Andrews for us," Alimpijevic commented.

"He had an injury picked up from the Andorra game, and he did not practice until the last day before the final. That was a factor as well. He was guarded well. All eyes were on him."

After the win against Bursaspor, which crowned Virtus Bologna as the EuroCup champions, Kyle Weems spoke to the reporters with the medal pending from his neck.

The American forward, now in his fourth season with the club, praised the work of coach Sergio Scariolo.

"I want to thank coach Scariolo, who's been fantastic since day one," Weems stated. "We lost many players, we had so many injuries, but he didn't care, he always kept us on the wire and the guys kept fighting. It didn't matter who was playing, we always fought. That shows how good was the spirit inside the locker room."

"I'm incredibly proud and for me, it's special to be part of all this," Weems added. "I want to thank so many people inside the organization that work so hard behind the scenes. Really hard-working people who helped me a lot over the years do not receive a lot of recognition, but they deserve all the praise."

This is the second major European trophy that Weems won with Virtus Bologna after the Basketball Champions League in 2019.

Marco Belinelli, the captain of Virtus Bologna, was definitely happy after winning the EuroCup final against Frutti Extra Bursaspor.

The Italian veteran guard shared his thoughts with the reporters right after the game, expressing all his satisfaction with the result.

"I let the results speak for myself," Belinelli said. "When I signed with Virtus Bologna, these were the goals that we established: trying to win as much as possible and, most importantly, going back to the EuroLeague."

"Last season, we were close to that goal, and I have to be honest, last night I thought about those moments when we lost in the semifinal against Kazan. This season we deserved this win," he added.

"In the last few months, we made some important additions, thanks to Mr. Zanetti and the organization," Bellineli continued. "Daniel Hackett and Toko Shengelia gave us more options and more experience, so now we're definitely a different team."

"Tonight, we proved that we deserved to win, and we did it against a team that never gave up. They deserve all the respect in the world, but we won, we were hungrier than them," said the Italian veteran.

Belinelli added a few words about his future, which will continue to be in Bologna.

"Until I feel good, my goal will always be the same: keep winning," Belinelli said. "I feel good here, I'm home. I promised my daughter that we'll win the game and play in the EuroLeague. So this win, this trophy is for her."

After defeating Frutti Extra Bursaspor in the EuroCup final, Virtus Bologna will play in EuroLeague next season, and the entire organization couldn't be happier with the result.

After the game and some celebrations inside the locker room, coach Sergio Scariolo entered the press conference room to answer some questions and share some thoughts about the season of his team.

"We're extremely happy, it's been a great EuroCup season," Scariolo began. "I want to thank the organization, Massimo Zanetti, Luca Baraldi, and Paolo Ronci. For me, it wasn't easy to leave the NBA, but after tonight's win, it was worth it.

"The organization really respected and satisfied all my requests and my decisions about the roster, they really tried to do everything that I've asked, I'm really grateful for this," he added.

Scariolo returned to the first part of the season when the team struggled from time to time and suffered many injuries.

"In the first part of the season, we had so many injuries that at some point I almost thought that this season was not the right one to win," he said. "After February, we started to recover some players, and with the additions of Toko Shengelia and Daniel Hackett, we added some needed experience and stability."

"I want to thank the players for letting me coach them, even hard sometimes. I felt their trust, which was very important for me," Scariolo added.

Virtus Segafredo Bologna are the new 7DAYS EuroCup champions after taking down Frutti Extra Bursaspor80-67.

The ball magician Milos Teodosic was instrumental in fulfilling Virtus' EuroLeague dream.

The 35-year-old Serbian floor general finished the final with 21 points (4/4 2PT, 4/8 3PT, 1/2 FT), 1 rebound, 3 assists, 5 turnovers, and 15 PIR. The latter performance granted him the EuroCup final MVP honors.

He came up big when his team needed him the most. Teodosic buried back-to-back three-pointers to make it 58-43 with 3 minutes to go in the third quarter. That stretch paved the way for Virtus' victory, as Italians managed to secure their double-digit advantage.

"Last year when we lost the semifinal, that hurt us. And this season, in the beginning, we were struggling with COVID and a lot of injuries. I believe this is the first game in the season that we have everyone healthy," Teodosic said after the victory.

"So, we really improved during the season and in the crucial moments of the season, we started playing really as a team, defensively and offensively. That Danny [Hackett] and Toko [Shengelia] came to the team also helped us a lot. So, I am really proud of the last two-and-a-half or three years here. We were improving every year."

It's another accolade on Milos Teodosic's resume. He is a former EuroLeague champion (2016), a EuroLeague MVP (2010), and a two-time EuroCup regular season MVP (2020, 2021). He also has multiple EuroLeague and EuroCup First Team selections.
