The Phoenix Suns were dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak surrounding their Game 7 loss to the Dallas Mavericks last month, The Athletic reported Wednesday.

2022-05-19

The Dallas Mavericks' celebrations during a Game 7 win over the top-seeded Phoenix Suns in the first round of the playoffs led to a $50,000 fine from the NBA on Wednesday.

The league announced that the Mavericks violated regulations dictating "team bench decorum" as Dallas was rolling to a 123-90 win at Phoenix on Sunday.

According to the NBA's statement, "On multiple occasions, several players and a member of the coaching staff stood for an extended period in the Mavericks' team bench area, stood away from the team bench, and were on or encroaching upon the playing court."

The sanction led to a bemused response from Dallas coach Jason Kidd ahead of his team's Western Conference finals opener on Wednesday night in San Francisco.

"I know about the fine. Just trying to figure out what we did wrong to get the fine," Kidd said. "So, we'll see (Thursday) why we got fined. I mean, who complained? It was a blowout, so I don't think the fans were complaining. I thought the guys did what they were supposed to do. They were cheering on their guys. So we'll find out what the fine is. But it is what it is."

The league previously fined the Mavericks $25,000 for the same issue during Game 2 of the Suns series -- a contest Dallas lost 129-109 in Phoenix.

Luka Doncic's 35-point game in Phoenix has caught the attention of basketball people all around the globe.

After CJ McCollum, who tweeted that "an NBA road game isn’t really pressure" to the Dallas Mavericks superstar, his brother Errick came forward with a tweet to remind everyone of the skepticism prevailing over Doncic's case when the Slovenian boy prodigy first moved to the NBA.

"I remember when Charles Barkley criticized overseas basketball and the EuroLeague because 'we let an 18-year-old kid get MVP of league and dominate.'

Now look what that same kid been doing to the NBA since he got drafted! He dominating more, and it look easier for him," Errick McCollum wrote on Twitter.

The Dallas Mavericks hammered the top-seeded Phoenix Suns with a 123-90 knockout on Sunday night, advancing to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2011.

The Suns finished the season on a disappointing note after dominating for the most of the regular season. For the second straight year, Chris Paul's campaign came to an end with his team failing to protect a 2-0 series lead.

Paul had a terrible Game 7, registering only 10 points and four assists in 31 minutes of play being a minus-39 for the time he was on the court. Suns star guard talked about whether this was his best shot at a title.

"They said that last year. They probably said it back in '08. You play long enough and you don’t win, every time you lose, they’re going to say it was your best chance", Paul told reporters.

"But I think for me, us, it’s we'll be right back next year. I'll tell you that much," he continued. "I’m not retiring tomorrow, thank God. Hopefully, I’m healthy coming back. But I'm [going to] keep playing."

The Dallas Mavericks celebrated the win over the Phoenix Suns in Game 7 on Sunday night, but Spencer Dinwiddie had a lot of reasons to enjoy the victory.

One of them was his 30-point-performance in only 25 minutes, his team's second-best next to Luka Doncic. He had 21 of his 26 points at halftime, helping his side reach the Western Conference finals.

Dinwiddie struggled to find his jumper but still averaged over 15 points per game against the Utah Jazz in the Conference quarter-finals. He stepped up big-time vs. last year's finalists and now he's got another cause for celebrations -his contract bonus.

After falling behind 2-0 and 3-2 in the series, the Dallas Mavericks won the final two games by an average of 30 points.

Luka Doncic delivered a one of a kind performance in Game 7 against the Phoenix Suns, dropping 35 points in 30 minutes, as the Mavericks cruised to the Western Conference finals.

Doncic finished the game with 35 points (6/8 2PT, 6/11 3PT, 5/5 FT), 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 turnovers. His show captured the attention of former and current NBA players who showed some intense reaction on social media.

Patrick Beverley felt some vindication for picking Mavs and Luka to go all the way.

Luka Doncic went for 35 points in 30 minutes, Spencer Dinwiddie added 30, while the Dallas Mavericks put up a spectacular performance in crucial Game 7 against the Phoenix Suns.

The visiting Mavericks beat the no. 1 seed Suns 123-90 (27-17, 30-10, 35-23, 31-40) and won the series 4-3.

A victory by 33 points in Game 7 tied the 5th biggest win in an entire NBA history. The record is being held by the Mavericks as well, who beat the Houston Rockets 116-76 in 2005.

Dallas will face the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference final.

After falling behind 2-0 and 3-2 in the series, Dallas won the final two games by an average of 30 points.

Patrick Beverley expressed his admiration for Slovenian wunderkind Luka Doncic.

Ahead of vital Game 7 between the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, Beverley was asked: "Who you got?"

Minnesota Timberwolves' defensive cornerstone was clear: "Luka Doncic and Dallas Mavericks".

"I got to go with Luka, who I faced last year. I got to, the boy was cookin' me. He has played in Game 7. Besides Chris Paul, I do not think anyone on the roster has played Game 7 (for the Suns). Obviously, JaVale McGee but no one for sure in the starting lineup. I have to go with Luka, he has been playing well and Dallas has been on a roll," Beverley spoke.

Last year, Mavs lost in the playoffs' first round against the Los Angeles Clippers with Beverley in the squad for the second consecutive season in seven games.

Doncic had great series, averaging 35.7 points, 10.3 assists, and 7.9 rebounds.
