Scariolo never met with Real Madrid, despite rumors, and is considering legal action against Virtus for claiming otherwise and firing him prematurely.
Sergio Scariolo was let go of his position as the head coach of Virtus Segafredo Bologna before the start of the season without a single official game in the new year under his belt.
Several days later, Virtus owner Massimo Zanetti slammed the coach, citing supposed meetings Scariolo had with the Toronto Raptors and Real Madrid.
"When Scariolo had those meetings with Raptors and Real, he treated us like we were a second-division team," Zanetti said.
According to Relevo, Scariolo never met with Real Madrid and is now considering taking legal action against the Italian club.
The EuroLeague Head Coaches Board released a statement, declaring that they expect Virtus to fulfill their obligations fully, and would support Scariolo by any means necessary if that is not the case.
Scariolo was fired after Virtus found his comments during a press conference unsatisfactory. The Italian specialist was critical of the situation he was placed in. When asked about the roster, he said that the management constructed it and all questions should be directed to them.
Scariolo was fired the very next day.
