Evan Fournier played only 27 games for the New York Knicks in the 2022-23 NBA season. He didn't appear on the court for a single minute in the playoffs. After getting eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinal, Fournier was open about his current state and his future.

In an interview with Brian Lewis from the New York Post, the Frenchman said there are almost no chances he remains in the Big Apple next year.

"There's no way they're going to keep me. I would be very surprised if they did," he said. "We'll see. It's obviously not in my hands."

Fournier played his last game on April 9th against the Indiana Pacers where he logged in 12 minutes of playing time but didn't manage to score, missing all of his four shots. Overall, his numbers were the worst in his 11-year NBA career.

"My season has been over for a very long time, actually. This officially is the end but my season was over a long time ago," Fournier told. "It took me a good month to understand that. At first, I was, like, 'just be patient in seeing how the team developed'. Obviously, there are gonna be changes and I'm gonna get traded."

The Knicks got eliminated from title contention by the Miami Heat in a 6-game series. Fournier admitted that it was even more difficult psychologically to sit on the bench while the team was losing.

"You know, when it's the playoffs it's even harder because … you want to help and you see the crowd. But I knew it wasn't going to happen," the player said. "So I was just trying to stay positive with the guys, try to help, talk to the younger players that don't have the experience."

"Did I feel like I could help? I mean, I felt like I could help all season. So yeah, for sure," he concluded.
