It's currently unclear how the process would look but if Lue gets traded, he wouldn't be the first active coach to be dealt to another team as there have been five cases of head coaches getting traded for draft picks in NBA history.

The Phoenix Suns parted ways with their head coach Monty Williams after an unsuccessful playoff campaign. The organization is reportedly looking to make an unconventional move regarding its new coach.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, the Suns are looking into the possibility of luring Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue away from the franchise and signing him as the new leader of the team.

There is a possibility, in that case, the Lue could be traded. If that happens, he wouldn't be the first one to be dealt to another team while being an active coach.

There have been five cases in NBA history of coaches getting traded with Jason Kidd being the most recent example in 2014.

Throughout his four years with the organization, Williams was elected Coach of the Year in 2022 and brought the team to NBA Finals in 2021. He had three years and more than $20 million left in his contract.
