Draymond Green considering playing for Team USA in FIBA World Cup 2023. Green mentioned that he might "possibly play FIBA" as part of his plans to travel, rejuvenate, and prepare for the next season after a series loss vs. Los Angeles Lakers.
Warriors forward Draymond Green said after Friday's season-ending defeat for Golden State that he might "possibly play FIBA" for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup 2023.
"Travel a little bit, refill the cup, possibly play FIBA -- we will see, work my ass off and be better next year -- that's some of my priorities," Green said.
Draymond Green has played for Team USA in two Olympics -- Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. In both of these FIBA events, he won gold medals.
In the recent Tokyo Games, he contributed an average of 3.5 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game over six appearances.
In mid-March, The Athletic's Joe Vardon reported that two NBA stars with Team USA experience have already committed to play in the upcoming World Cup in the Philippines, Japan, and Indonesia. However, those players have not given their consent for the commitments to be announced.
Vardon also reported that Warriors and Team USA head coach Steve Kerr talked with Memphis Grizzlies duo Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, and Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso.
In preparation for the 2023 FIBA Men's World Cup, Team USA will play Slovenia (Aug. 12) and Spain (Aug. 13) in Malaga.
Later, Team USA will host Greece and Germany in the Abu Dhabi exhibition games on Aug. 18 and 20, respectively.
