Thomas Walkup was officially granted Greek citizenship, allowing him to play for Greece in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.
Olympiacos Piraeus guard Thomas Walkup was officially granted Greek citizenship.
Greece Ministry of the Interior and President Katerina Sakellaropoulou signed the required documents, allowing Walkup to acquire Greek nationality.
On Tuesday, gazzetta.gr reported that Walkup intends to play in the upcoming FIBA World Cup in August.
If Walkup takes part in the FIBA World Cup, it means the doors for Tyler Dorsey will be shut since FIBA allows only one naturalized player in the national teams.
Walkup joined Olympiacos in the summer of 2021. Last week, Walkup signed a 4-year contract extension with Olympiacos that will keep him in the Greek powerhouse at least until the end of the 2026-27 season.
Walkup averages 7.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 12.9 PIR over 34 EuroLeague appearances this season.
